Season tickets: Get in there sharpish!

author Posted by: roversreturn on date Jun 23rd, 2009 | filed Filed under: Board

Just a word of warning to any Rovers fans intending to buy season tickets whi haven’t already.

I’ve just ordered my Dad and myself one. Hoping to get decent Blackburn End lower seats,  I was bitterly disappointed. The stand is sold out. Yes, Rovers and sold out in the same breath! The woman in the ticket office couldn’t believe what she was saying!

The board’s excellent season tickets offer has obviously been well received by the community, who have snapped them up in double quick fashion!

I’ve ended up five rows back in the Riverside Stand, not my ideal place to be, but at least I’ll be in the ground!

However, we are still within the deadline for current season ticket holders to renew their’s, so if anyone daft enough to cancel their ticket does so, hopefully I’ll be shifted into the Blackburn End where I belong!

This turn of events has left me feeling both disappointed that I may not be sat in the Blackburn End, the stand I’ve sat in for as long as I can remember, but also very excited for the atmosphere within the ground.

Hopefully we can shake off the stigma of having a half-empty ground every week and other sides with a much larger fanbase laughing at us, and show them that with a bit of consideration for the fans, and a price reduction on tickets, they may well respond by buying turning up in their droves!

Bring on the new season!

  1. Vinjay Said,

I assume the Walkers were planning a transfer budget of zero this summer then since the 13 million quoted has been generated entirely by sales. What if Cruz and Derbyshire hadn’t been sold?

I would rather have that 13 million topped up with further funds from the owners than cheaper tickets. Is it an excellent considerate offer or effectively a bribe to deflect any potential criticism in their direction?

  2. admin Said,

    Extremely harsh comment there Vinjay!

Rovers, historically, have not been that well supported. Throughout the difficult days of the 70s and 80s we would struggle to attract a crowd of 5/6,000.

Jack Walker’s takeover revitalised the club, and the town, and saw the people of Blackburn unite and turn out in their thousands to support the side.

Since the days of the title win our fortunes have seen a downturn, as have our attendances, especially since Jack’s death saw the money dry up.

For the first time in Premier League history a club’s board have acted by slashing ticket prices and giving something back to the people of Blackburn.

Remember, the Walkers didn’t make the decision about ticket prices – the board did! And there’s no point criticising the Walkers. If they want out, they want out. Fair enough.

We just have to hope someone buys them out sooner rather than later.

Someone at work mentioned a rumour yesterday about a takeove bid planned for us or Everton. Just a rumour but we wait with baited breath!

  3. Vinjay Said,

That takeover rumour dosen’t appear to be true. The individual linked to the 60% story has denied it.

Lee Grooby of the official site said it wasn’t BRFC anyway not that it appears to be anyone now. Unless it’s all a massive smokescreen on both sides.

I always said in 05/06 I would try to stop criticising the Walkers if they made an effort to sell. Since 2007 (appointing Rothschilds) that appears to be the case.

It’s hard not to complain though as the wait for a takeover is just so frustrating. I believe it will happen at some stage though.
